Doing the right thing, particularly when it is easier and cheaper not too. A man once put his own name behind a £5,000 debt for me on nothing but trust. You do not forget what that obliges you to be.
Putting Londoners first. Not as a slogan as a job description. Leadership is looking after the people who cannot yet look after themselves, whether or not anyone is watching.
Helping every person succeed. Talent is spreading evenly across this city. Opportunity is not. Closing that gap is the entire reason we are here.
Treating everyone with dignity. Every job has dignity in it, and so does every person do one. We will speak to a night cleaner exactly as we would speak to a chief executive, because we have been both in the room and on the door.
Bringing London's communities together. Not everybody agreeing that would be a strange thing to want from nine million people. Simply a city where what we share holds firmer than what divides us.
Listening and delivering. Anybody can promise. We would rather listen first, say clearly what we will do, and then be judged on whether we did it. Six words. We intend to be held by all of them.
